I have decided to create a piece of work that explores a visual language through linear marks, using stitch combined with mixed media components. This piece is of a similar format to a sketchbook page but in fabric.
The piece overall doesn’t necessarily follow a specific narrative or pre-determined composition. It is a snapshot of ideas and images, it evolved through the making process. By using positive and negative space, following the quilting format of using stitch within negative space, I have started to explore imagery and marks.
Photography helps me to define, refine and evaluate – to plan and build from this exploratory stage. As a result of working this piece, I now know that the next work will explore both the back and the front of the fabric. Each will be worked simultaneously so that the eventual finished work has neither a defined front nor back.
Lovely quilting.
